I heard of it on and off during the 2001 - 2005 time frame, but I didn’t pay it any heed because an asexual friend had described asexuality to me as never wanting sex under any circumstances ever. This was and is how asexuality is for her. She mostly talked about her asexuality in the context of how sad she was that she was single, until joining AVEN. She hasn’t been single since.
